Difference between Disk Operating System (DOS) and Windows
DOS is a single-tasking operating system while Windows is a multi-tasking operating system. Using DOS takes longer than Windows because only one operation (command) can be run at a time. Whereas in Windows users can do different tasks simultaneously.
DOS is a command-line operating system, whereas Windows is a graphical based operating system. DOS users were required to type commands into the Command Line Interface (CLI) to perform computer tasks. Whereas the Graphical User Interface (GUI) helps Windows users to easily perform tasks on the computer through mouse pointer, icons, graphical objects.
Windows operating system supports networking while DOS does not support networking. Windows can be linked to other computers to share data and resources among multiple users.
DOS operating system does not support multimedia, while Windows supports multimedia. MS-DOS users cannot perform activities such as playing games, watching movies, or listening to music, while Windows users can enjoy all multimedia programs.
DOS is an operating system that can access a disk storage device, installed on a floppy disk or hard disk drive. But you can’t normally install Windows on an external disk.
DOS is not widely used currently, while Windows has become the dominant operating system globally. Windows has more features than DOS. Limited storage is used in DOS while unlimited storage can be used in Windows. Thereby windows users can store a lot of data without worrying about their memory storage.
